Answer:-

All types of insurance currently in use are prohibited as they are dependent on interest and tides. However, all insurances that are mandated by the government, such as motor insurance, etc., can be done on the condition that only the deposit amount is collected from the insurance company. No extra money or benefit can be accepted. Even if it is taken, it must be given as Sadaqah. (Fatawaye Usmani-3/314)

If the insurance is mandatory by the university, then that insurance can be taken. However, the amount deposited later cannot be taken.
